Westminster Hall Debate on IBD and Employment

The Labour MP for Islwyn, Chris Evans, has said the government needs to ensure that any changes to the welfare system do not harm the employment opportunities for people living with inflammatory bowel disease.

IBD covers a range of chronic conditions including Chron's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, and was the subject of a short Westminster Hall debate on 13 January 2012.

A recent report by the Chron's and Colitis UK charity found that 68% of people with IBD felt they had "little or no control" over their working conditions, with a third feeling that they had minimal or no support from their employer.

The charity is urging employers to improve the working conditions of people with IBD, such as time for hospital appointments and flexible working.
