RED HOT CURRY AND QUIZ EVENT We had a really great evening, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and we would like to thank all of you who came and supported this event. BUT, we especially want to thank Logan and Sarah Pemberton. Logan cooked us three fantastic curries with accompaniments, and a lasagne, and all the food was kindly donated by Sarah's company; Jasmar Accounting Services.
We are very pleased to report that we made a profit of £298. We will be holding another event in May 2012, when the theme will be SPORT... so we look forward to seeing you then. More details to follow....
'Get together over coffee' We had a very successful morning, although there was a bit of a wobble when we got there, as Dunelm Mill had a power cut and the cafe was closed!! However all was well by just after 10.30 am. We will try to arrange another one soon. Please let us know through e-mail if you are interested in joining us for an informal chat over coffee. We hope to be changing the venues regularly, so please contact us if you have any suggestions of where to go for these get-togethers. 'Thank you' to our nurses: IBD Nurse Award Do you have an IBD nurse who makes it so much easier to manage your Crohn’s or Colitis? Does he or she take the time to listen and help you not only with the illness itself but how to make the best of life around or despite it? Do they hold telephone appointments, provide short notice support, keep in touch to remind you when tests are needed? One member said “I am one of the fortunate people who has access to an IBD nurse. Having Jeanne available is such a great help and that reassurance that if I'm not feeling particularly well between appointments, I can give her a call, or send an e-mail with my concerns. We will talk through things and if need be she will refer back to my consultant and then call me back with further advise. Knowing that I can talk to someone who knows me and my case history provides that peace of mind that I don't have to speak to the GP who doesn't always fully understand the finer details of the condition”. A good IBD nurse can make a world of difference to someone’s life when they have IBD, and once again, Crohn’s and Colitis UK are celebrating these wonderful people by awarding a prize to the very best – and your vote counts! See our website, or use the entry form sent out with NACC News to vote for your nurse now. Do your batteries run low very easily? Do you need a sit down before you start sometimes? Crohn’s and Colitis UK’s project on fatigue could make the difference to a lot of people’s lives. Read about Sue’s story and maybe you would like to let us know how you cope with the tiredness that comes with IBD.
Fatigue, Sue’s story Your mind wants to do something but your batteries go flat” is how Sue described the tiredness that comes with IBD. She went on to say “I feel like one of those mechanical toys, like the rabbit in the Duracell advert, but the one with the cheap batteries – just getting slower and slower till you think ‘I just can’t go any more’”. You’ll be aware that Crohn’s and Colitis UK are research |
