News Crohn's and Colitis UK (NACC) Merchandise now available online Visit the shop The next meeting of our group  is on the 13th September 2011from 7pm -  Venue to be decided ============================ SUNDAY 19TH JUNE - PRESTWICH CARNIVAL We  had a great day at the Prestwich Carnival,  raising awareness and raised a fantastic 271.30....Thank you to all that came along and supported us!!! photos of the event on our Facebook group here =============================================== Bag Packing fundraiser at Prestwich M&S, 11 June On Sat 11th June we held our first ever fund-raising event - a bag-packing day at Marks & Spencer's store in Prestwich . We raised £312.39. See  video of the event by clicking here and photos on our Facebook group here =========================================   Manchester City Council Cuts  all its Public Toilets (bar one)  On Feb 8th 2011, Manchester City Council, as part of its cuts package, said it would close all its public toilets except for the ones on Mount Street. So that means that 6 will go in the city centre and 12 outside the City Centre. That's a 90% cut in facilities for people with Crohns or Ulcerative Colitis, as well as all the other disabled people who will be affected.   ========================================= The first talk arranged by the group in November 2010 was on the topic of “Risks in Inflammatory Bowel Disease”. It was given by Dr Simon Campbell, from Manchester Royal Infirmary. The meeting was very well attended and we hope to hold another educational event in September 2011

Welcome to the Central & North Manchester Crohn's & Colitis Group  

We are a group of local Colitis and Crohn’s UK volunteers most of whom have IBD themselves. A specialist IBD nurse, Joanne Hodgins is a member of the group, and gastro-enterology consultant, Simon Campbell is our medical advisor.

In May 2011 we held the first meeting of the re-formed organising group. We hope to have an educational meeting in September by a gastro-enterology consultant and to introduce the new Manchester organising group.

We will also had a successful stall at Prestwich Carnival , St Mary's Park, Manchester on 19th June 2011. We raised over £600 at these two events

Colitis and Crohn’s (also known as inflammatory bowel disease or IBD) affects 1 in 250 of the population. That's over 120,000 of us in the UK. Symptoms can include chronic diarrhoea, severe pain and fatigue, eye, joint and skin problems, and impaired growth in children. These lifelong diseases have no known cure, and frequently affect teenagers and young adults as well as older people.  Despite the greater prevalence of IBD, public recognition of Colitis & Crohn’s Disease is well below that of Parkinson’s Disease or Multiple Sclerosis.
